History

BlaQ was established in 2019 to nurture pathways of informed and authentic representations which positively impacts the social and emotional wellbeing of our Community.

Our LGBTQIA+SB community has always been here, existing in the kinship structures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture since time immemorial. We acknowledge that BlaQ’s business is a continuum of the work of staunch advocates of our LGBTQIA+SB community.

We stand on the shoulders of giants and continue to advocate for LGBTQIA+SB representation and inclusion. We celebrate all intersections of our Community, including our Elders, our young people, our people living with disabilities, and everyone who goes unseen and unheard.

We also acknowledge and thank our Founding Directors for their dedication and passion in making BlaQ a reality – Jessica Johnson, Jinny-Jane Smith, John Leha, and William Trewlynn. BlaQ recognises our history and continues to evolve to ensure we meet the needs and priorities of our LGBTQIA+SB membership.
