Grounded in culture and guided by self-determination, the retreat supports the wellbeing of our community by fostering pride, resilience, and belonging. The outcomes reach far beyond the retreat itself, helping participants reconnect with the community and carry that strength back into their everyday lives.
Through the BlaQ Retreat, we continue to create environments where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander LGBTQSB+ people feel seen, valued, and supported to thrive.
In 2023, BlaQ proudly hosted the inaugural BlaQ Retreat on beautiful Worimi Country (Port Stephens), a milestone moment for our community.
The retreat was packed with immersive cultural and wellbeing experiences, including a hands-on workshop guided by the Murrook Cultural Centre and Worimi Sand Dune Adventures. Participants explored the stunning Stockton Sand Dunes on quad bike tours. All of which is proudly Aboriginal-owned and operated, supporting Blak businesses
BlaQ Retreats allow our mob to connect and take time out. BlaQ Aboriginal Corporation always aims to work with Aboriginal-led services and facilitators. The retreats not only created space for cultural learning and connection but also directly contributed to the growth and sustainability of Blak enterprises, reinforcing our commitment to community empowerment and economic independence.
Nestled by the ocean at Collaroy on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, BlaQ Retreat 2024 was more than just a weekend away; it was a powerful celebration of community, culture, and connection.
During the warmer months in October, BlaQ Queer Mob from across the country came together to connect, revive, and thrive. Over three unforgettable days, participants immersed themselves in workshops, cultural activities, and reflective spaces designed to nurture the health and wellbeing of our community.
Activities ranged from: beading workshops, spiritual healing, clay creations, archery, art therapy, and high-wire obstacle course.
And when the sun went down, the energy turned up with dazzling entertainment from drag queens El Beauty and Fantasia Towers, who brought sparkle, sass, and plenty of laughter to the retreat’s evening.
