BlaQ Aboriginal Corporation, a Redfern-based not-for-profit working towards improving the lived experience of First Nations LGBTQSB+ people, today announced the launch of a dynamic street campaign aimed at increasing public awareness and raising much-needed funding support.
Digital inclusion is not just having access to the internet, it means being able to afford mobiles, computers and internet connection and having the skills to use it safely.Â
Being able to access, afford and use digital technology is an important part of participating in today’s world.
Target 17 of the National Agreement on Closing the Gap commits the government to ensuring that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have equal levels of digital inclusion by 2026.Â
Co-leading the NSW Government and NSW Coalition of Aboriginal Peak Organisations (NSW CAPO) approach to Closing the Gap Target 17, BlaQ Aboriginal Corporation (BlaQ) and NSW Department of Customer Service (DCS) work together to help Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have access to information and services enabling participation in informed decision-making regarding their own lives.
We exist to support, encourage and empower the people within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander LGBTQSB+ community to take control of their own lives in a safe and affirming space. We treat people with dignity and respect, whilst valuing personal perspectives, morals, beliefs, and preferences.
Culture is at the core of what we do informing and guiding all aspects of our direction. To ensure the needs of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander LGBTQSB+ community are heard and met, our cultural identity underpins our policies, programs and service delivery.
We adopt a strengths-based approach to our work, which acknowledges, appreciates and builds on strengths of our community. We continuously work to create a culture of continued growth and seeks to enhance our community engagement, service deliveries, professional and social networks, and financial sustainability to secure the longevity of our grassroots agenda.
